NDVI values should be interpreted with caution. They depend on land cover, phenological stage, crop management, crop rotation, seasonality, and the length and quality of the reference period. Particularly for cultivated and managed sites, raw NDVI values alone do not provide a comprehensive diagnosis of drought stress and, for this reason, should not be interpreted against a universal absolute drought-stress scale. The dashboard therefore presents NDVI as contextual vegetation information to be interpreted in conjunction with SPEI, site-specific knowledge, project documentation and, where available, historical trends, meteorological information, and in situ drought-related data. In the future, incorporating approaches that account for land cover and seasonal variations is recommended as a further improvement.
